Under $100: RepliKating the Max Mara from Hope House
My name is Joann and I’m from Lubbock, Texas. I am so excited to be joining the Kate’s Clothes blog as a monthly contributor. I will be focusing on affordable “replikates”. So many of us would love to dress like the duchess but cannot afford the price tags. I will seek to bring you great Kate-inspired alternatives under $100 so you can dress like the princess but still have funds in the bank!
Kate first wore this grey MaxMara dress on February 19, 2013 after announcing her pregnancy with Prince George. It is made of jersey material with long sleeves and a v-neck. It definitely looks like an easy, non-wrinkly number to have in your closet. However, it retailed for £298 or about $430.
Even if you could still get this, we are looking for under $100 repliKates, and thankfully there are some affordable options out there. A great reply”Kate” for plus sizes is the Knit Wrap dress by Ava & Viv at Target. Kate’s dress is grey, but this black & white wrap dress with geometric pattern will definitely give you a similar feel with the v-neck and side tie. Available in sizes extra large through 4X, it retails for $27.99. Pair this dress with a circular necklace and drop earrings to solidify the look!
Another great alternative is this abstract patterned gray wrap dress from Overstock.com. This dress is labeled as 24/7 comfort- and we all know comfort is important whether you are a duchess or not. This dress is also fabulous as it is available in multiple sizes ranging small through extra large, plus sizes 2X and 3X, and maternity sizes small to 3XL. Starting at only $45.99, it is short sleeved with a v-neck and side tie. If you are uncomfortable with v-neck dresses and tops, consider a gray camisole to mimic more of Kate’s look.
How about this long sleeve black and white “Speckle Print Cascade Wrap Dress” from Karen Kane? It is long sleeve, stretch fit, with a faux wrap front. Plus, its machine washable and I think even Kate would appreciate that. Available in sizes extra small to extra large, it is normally $128, but right now it’s on sale for $76.80.
Kate’s accessories are important, too. Kate was wearing her “Angel” pumps in black by Episode. These heels from Kohls’ are a really great option to mimic the Duchess’s pricier pumps. Available in a multitude of sizes and colors, they are currently on sale for $29.99. So if you are confident in heels, why not get them in every color?
To finish your look, consider jewelry that is similar to Kate’s “167 Button” pendant by Asprey. I think pairing this necklace with the amethyst stone with a gray dress is really stunning. But unless you happen to have $4,000 lying around, try this more reasonably priced suggestion from Centime. Jane reviewed this beautiful repliKate some months ago on From Berkshire to Buckingham. The necklace is specifically designed to match Kate’s and it can be yours for $55.00.
Kate is also wearing “Yellow Gold & Diamond Hoops” by Kiki McDonough with her “Baroque Pearl Drops” by Annoushka. Together, you would pay over $1,000 to have this specific pairing. A more practical option are these “Cezanne Pave Cap Pearl Drop Earrings” from Dillards. They are only $24 and they come in either gold or silver. Plus I think they look like little acorns, don’t you?
So even though you probably don’t have the clothes budget of the duchess, hopefully you can see that you can still rock a similar look with these more reasonably priced suggestions. If you put together this ensemble or another great repliKate look on a more moderate budget, tweet me at @Kates_Clothes to show me what you came up with!
Lovely post, Joann! I find sometimes that writing a post specifically about ‘RepliKates’ can be tedious, but you do it with such elegance and fluidity. I look forward to reading more.
Excellent post! Love your options and the fact that they are for extra-large girls!
Most of the times, the dresses are for thin girls but your choices are great for those with extra love and rolls!
Great options! Love the idea of affordable options for imitating Kate’s style!
I loved the earrings you found, Joann. They are so cute and they *do* look like acorns!
I love that fact that you found plus Kate options which can be hard to find, thanks.
P.S. you look a lot like Kate.
