Commissioned by The Duke of York (George VI) in 1936 for the then Duchess of York (later, Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother), the Cartier Halo was given to Princess Elizabeth (Elizabeth II) on her 18th birthday in 1944. The Royal Collection notes the tiara's statistics: "The tiara is formed as a band of 16 graduated scrolls set with 739 brilliants and 149 baton diamonds." The Queen leant the tiara to Kate on April 29, 2011 for her marriage to William.
