Kate, titled the Countess of Strathearn in Scotland, watched as her husband was invested into the Order of the Thistle in July of 2012. England has an oder of chivalry, The Order of The Garter, and Scotland has a similar association, The Oder of the Thistle, although it is much younger, dating only from 1687. Like the Order of the Garter, members are appointed at the pleasure of the monarch. Kate carried her Strathearn tartan scarf in a nod to the northern nation. Unlike the Order of the Garter, which meets annually, the Oder of the Thistle meets every two years. While William made the '14 assembly, Kate stayed home.
