William and Kate were photographed leaving Clarence House for their more intimate reception, held at 7:30pm at Buckingham Palace. They invited 300 of their friends and family to celebrate their marriage. The Telegraph reported:

"Guests arrived at the pre-dinner drinks reception through a candle-lit walkway in the Palace courtyard, where bagpipers welcomed them. They were served with vintage pink champagne, peach bellinis and elderflower cocktails, amidst the stunning backdrop of the Palace’s State Apartments where guests sipping drinks feasted their eyes on paintings by the Old Masters including Velazquez, Rubens and Van Dyck. Shortly after 8pm, guests were ushered into the Palace’s Ballroom for dinner, complete with two huge thrones at one end of the room, and an organ at the other."

Tables were named after places important to the couple, including St. Andrews, Welsh towns close to the couple's home, Tetbury near Prince Charles's Highgrove estate and more.

Dinner and toasts lasted at least two hours, before guests were ushered into the throne room which had been decorated as nightclub to dance into the early hours. Supposedly, the evening ended a 3:30am with a fireworks display that included a Catherine Wheel.
