William and Kate spent the day in Christchurch, the New Zealand town devastated by an earthquake just before the couple's marriage. The two were welcomed outside the City Council building and then met with families who had lost loved ones in the earthquake. They visited the Transitional Cathedral where the community worshiped after their church was destroyed. The couple then moved to Latimer Square where they played some cricket to celebrate the city hosting the 2015 Cricket World Cup, and then it was off to the Botanical Gardens where they cut a garland of freesia to open the new visitors' center. The couple attended a fundraising luncheon at Wigram Airfare Base focused on rebuilding Christchurch. They closed their busy day unveiling a plaque by the Wall of Remembrance honoring members of the New Zealand Air Force, before flying back to Wellington.
