First Official Portrait by Paul Emsley
First Official Portrait by Paul Emsley

This is the first official portrait of HRH The Duchess of Cambridge. It was commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery, of which she is Royal Patron, and hangs in gallery 37. Kate sat twice for the portrait, but Paul Emsley worked primarily from pictures he took during the live sittings. The first sitting was in May of 2012 at Emsley studio in Bradford-upon-Avon, and the second in June at Kensington Palace.
