Duchess Kate & Wimbledon

Duchess Kate & Wimbledon

Kate loves tennis and she has established a routine of showing up at Wimbledon at least once a year (barring 2013 when she was heavily pregnant with Prince George) to take in a match in the Royal Box. Let’s look at her appearances over the past four years. The new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge caused a stir of excitement on June 27, 2011 when they arrived at the royal box to watch Andy Murray and Richard Gasquet battle it out in the quarter-finals. Kate was radiant in a sundress from Temperley London paired with nude accessories.

The couple were soon to embark on their blockbuster first royal tour and so there was no second appearance at Wimbledon in 2011, but in 2012, the Duchess was back, once with her sister and once with her spouse. She recycled the Alexander McQueen sailor dress she had debuted in Canada to watch Roger Federer in the quarter-finals with William.

Four days later, she returned to watch the championship with her sister Pippa. Again, she recycled pieces from 2011–her Joseph dress from the Canadian tour, and the Joseph tweed jacket from Epsom. She wore a gold-plated acorn pendant that we have not seen since.

While it doesn’t technically count as Wimbledon, Kate was back at the All England Club in 2012 to again watch Andy Murray play for the quarter-finals, but rather than competing for Wimbledon’s silver cup, he was striving for an Olympic Gold. Kate broke from her usual white, and instead recycled her blue Stella McCartney dress and paired it with the navy Smythe jacket.

As mentioned, Kate missed 2013, but in 2014 she did not disappoint. She watched the quarter-finals with William, returning again to tennis whites. Many fans were excited to see her recycle the Zimmermann dress she had recently debuted Down Under. She gave the ensemble a pop of color with her Hugo Boss scarf and Anya Hindmarch clutch:

The couple returned for the finals several days later. Kate opted for the Jonathan Saunders dress she wore on tour in South East Asia. The aqua and blue print complemented Wimbledon’s colors well, even though it was a break from Kate’s usual pattern.

This year, our fingers are crossed that Kate will again be at Wimbledon. If she follows her previous preference for a quarter-finals match and the championship, we can expect her on either the 8th of July or the 12th. If we are very lucky, we could see her for both! [Update: William and Kate will attend Wimbledon on the 8th!]

Hoping to see her for both dates this year as it will be a nice short break from the kiddos. I like all of these outfits, but my favorites are her McQueen sailor dress (one of my all time favorite dresses on her and just made for her slender frame) and the Zimmerman eyelet dress. Wondering if she will do white/cream this year, or mix it up a bit as she did last year.
