Dressing for Fall Like Kate

Featuring Zara, Michael Kors, Kate Spade, and J Crew

Dressing For Fall Like Kate: Zara, Michael Kors, Kate Spade, and J Crew

Kate may be a Princess of the United Kingdom, but she is definitely the undisputed Queen of Coat Dresses. As the weather begins to shift to cooler temperatures, Kate’s collection of cold-weather gear earns its well-deserved spot in the limelight. So if you wanted to populate your closet with Kate-inspired items, check out the below on offer from brands she loves:

Before nanny Maria Teresa Barallo took over the number 1 spot, Spanish-brand Zara reigned supreme as Kate’s favorite Spanish import. Their fall collection is full of gorgeous, moody, jewel tones and plenty of tweed, but this dress and top stood out because of those billowing sleeves. It’s very Beulah London!

J Crew

J Crew is a go-to for preppy chic attire. Right now you can get free shipping on orders above $150, and 25% off select styles online with code SHOPNOW. Plenty of items in the shop look like they are pulled directly from Kate’s closet.

Starting with the cream wool sweater on the left, especially paired with the watercolor scarf is very Kate to me! That red blazer comes in 3 other colors, but this shade is so similar to the one Kate wore during the 2012 Olympics. And it would look so amazing with a little black dress!

Michael Kors

Kate first debuted a Michael Kors coat to everyone’s surprise during the Cambridge’s tour of Australia and New Zealand.

While the brand is mainly known for their gorgeous bags, this alpaca coat is structured through the shoulder and the front which allows for a flattering cut when you’re all bundled up. I hope we see so much more of this brand on Kate since it’s a personal favorite of mine and I absolutely love the classic style of all their pieces.

Kate Spade

Kate Spade is a master of accessories from office supplies to handbags, but this fit and flare dress deserve some extra attention.

This black cocktail dress perfectly matches its demure shape and silhouette with an edgy embellished collar. Kate has been known to favor a little bling every now and again.

Kate Spade also has this red plaid midi skirt that gives me the warm and fuzzies just by looking at it. This blush tote is the perfect neutral complement and such a great size for travel or day to day. Lastly, don’t these leather gloves look so much like a camel version of Kate’s beloved black pair? They are just so cute to wear as the cooler temperatures begin to transition into winter.

While it’s fun to add new pieces into your wardrobe, it’s not always economical–especially if you’re on a budget. Have no fear, here a few tips that you can use to repurpose your clothes for multiple seasons.

  • Accessorize differently.

Kate is the queen of repeats, but haven’t you noticed how each re-wear varies from the last? Or in the case of three-peats, each time there is something slightly different? Switching from loose curls to an updo and swapping a statement necklace for drop-earrings is all you need to switch up a great outfit.

  • Dress it up

We all know Kate has a very well documented love affair with her “sporting uniform.”  But I just wanted to point out how much of a difference it makes to add a blazer onto an otherwise comfortable & casual top. Instead of reaching for a shapeless knit, opt for a structured blazer to help you stay warm and stylish!

  • Add a pop of ‘trend’

Layering is the eternal tip for fall and winter, which makes it so easy to incorporate on-trend styles without full commitment. Like I mentioned in my post last week, you can start small with a colorful clutch, or even a plaid scarf. Everywhere you look, plaid is taking over. If you’re like me, you’ve already picked up one of everything Target has in stock for the home (oh plaid rolling pins, I didn’t know what I was missing in my life!). Back to the point, including something into your wardrobe as an accessory is the perfect answer to incorporating styles in a meaningful but not expensive way!

That is all I have for you this week, any other tips for transitioning into fall? I must say, I’m pretty spoiled with Southern California weather, so I may not be the most qualified to give you these tips! See you all again very soon. I’ll be over here counting down the days until the Chinese State Banquet!
